Helping English Language Learners.

As a ELL I feel that there is a lot that needs to be changed in the educational system of this country. When I first came to this country back in 1993 (7Th grade) I was not interested in learning what was presented to me, it was not interesting or relevant. Now I understand that i was used to a different style of teaching and coming here i had to adjust to the way teachers teach here. But is that the way it should be? Well, I strongly believe that it is the teacher responsibility to create a learning atmosphere that is welcoming to everyone, maybe becoming more familiarized with the culture, background and education style that ELL had being previously exposed to before coming to the US, speaking to the parents, doing some research that will educate the teacher in what is expected from students in different countries, how are students taught in different countries and very important how are students approached in different countries.
I have found a web site that can be very helpful to us as future teachers of ELL, it gives ideas on how to help ELL in English and language arts. http://www.glencoe.com/sec/teachingtoday/subject/help_ELL_lit_la.phtml
All students have an equal right to be well prepared for a successful life!! after all that is why most immigrants come here for.
